Supara Chunkurchak Resort in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

Updated: Jun 22

supara chunkurchak resort

Supara Chunkurchak is a resort nestled in the majestic Kyrgyz mountains and lush greenery. I've been fortunate to have visited the resort on two separate occasions and escape from the bustle of city life. I hope you can visit and be in awe of the serene nature, embrace yourself with the mountains, and rejuvenate. Continue reading as I share my experiences of staying at the resort.

I visited the resort on two separate occasions. The first was during the winter and the second was during the summer. Considering Supara Chunkurchak is one of the highest-reviewed locations in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, the resort is truly a hot spot for visitors or even ideal for a day trip.

I recommend you follow their Instagram page to stay updated with the latest prices and resort information.

HOW TO GET THERE

The resort is less than an hour's drive away from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. If you have a car, you can easily follow the directions on Google Maps or 2GIS. We had a car in the summer and I was worried that the drive there would be difficult and the roads may be uneven since it is in the mountains. However, the road was smooth and we faced no issues getting there. If you are driving in the winter, make sure that your car is equipped with winter tires and drive with caution. There are some sharp turns so you may want to be careful.

If you don't have a car, you have other options such as contacting the resort to see if they provide pick-up and drop-off transportation. Or, you can rent a taxi on Yandex. Since the resort is in the mountains, I believe that there's no public transportation available.

TYPES OF ACCOMMODATIONS AVAILABLE

There are two types of accommodations available. The first is the famous yurts you've probably seen in the images. There are three rows of six yurts lined up and when booking, you can kindly request for which yurt you may want to stay in. I wanted a view of the whole resort and mountains which is why I asked for a yurt on the top row. What surprised me the most was how large these yurts were and how well the yurts were well-insulated during the winter season. These yurts all have their own washroom.

These yurts are the more expensive options, and they cost USD 100.00 per night. These yurts are perfect for couples, and small families.

The second type of accommodation available is these cylinder-like type of yurts on the ground level of the resort. I haven't stayed in these accommodations, but I believe some have three single beds which makes it ideal if you are traveling with friends or in groups. I believe the prices are lower than the regular yurts.

What to Eat

The resort only has one restaurant. We come here to eat at the breakfast buffet, which is included in the resort stay. The restaurant closes at 11:00 PM and its menu is the same as the Supara Restaurant located in Bishkek. You don't have to be staying at the resort to access the restaurant. I've seen people come here to just visit and come for a meal. They grill their meats outside in the wooden fire, so I highly recommend ordering any of their BBQ. The following are some of my favorite dishes to order:

  • Chai: In Kyrgyzstan, people love to drink chai. For some reason, the chai from Supara is extra special. It tastes so creamy and rich.

  • Borsok: A traditional fried dough dish that is served as a side dish. Trust me when I say this, but once you pop one in your mouth, you won't be able to stop.

  • Shashlik: Similar to a shish kebab, it is skewered and grilled cubes of meat. My favorite is to get lamb or beef! Since they grill it outside over wood/coal, the char gives it an extra nice flavor.

  • Kuurdak: A simple dish of fried mutton and potatoes. The flavor is powerful and has a nice kick of spice.

Activities to Do (Summer)

Come to the resort if you want to escape the summer heat. The weather in Bishkek can reach 40 degrees Celsius and coming into the mountains is a way to cool down and get some fresh air. Some activities you can do during the summer are archery, hiking, and horseriding. We did a 40-minute horseriding trek and I'm scared of horses but wanted to do this for my mom who was visiting from South Korea.

Activities to Do (Winter)

Come to the resort if you want to escape the winter smog. The winters in Bishkek are not the nicest, due to the smog and bad air quality, so once you come to the mountains, you'll have a chance to breathe in fresh air. Some activities you can do during the winter are hiking, horseriding, and sledding. They even have a small hot spring that you can enjoy. You can read more about my sledding experience at Chunkurchak here.
